I have a loved one in the hospital. Why can't I visit them?

Answer

In order to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams has strongly recommended that Acute Care Settings only allow essential visitors until further notice. The ministry identifies an essential visitor as those who have a patient who is dying or very ill or a parent/guardian of an ill child or youth, a visitor of a patient undergoing surgery or a woman giving birth. Hospitals may have their own guidelines and restrictions that build on these measures.

We will continue to re-evaluate this in the coming weeks and ensure consistency with recent guidance on enhanced public health measures. We understand that this is a difficult time for you and your family, and thank you for your continuing cooperation in playing your part to keep our vulnerable safe.
